Where Are We?

We are based in the village of Sywell close to the Aerodrome.

Sywell Aerodrome has been at the heart of Northampton’s Aviation community since it first opened in 1928. It is not quite as old as Scouting but is pretty close!

It is an iconic airfield and boasts a colourful history right back to the early days of flight.

Home to Tiger Moths and Lancaster Bombers in World War 2, it played a critical role in keeping the fleet flying, as a training and engineering base for the RAF.

Over the years there have been other youth organisations based at the Aerodrome as it has inspired young people to learn about aviation throughout the last century.

Now in the 21st Century Northamptonshire is the perfect place to raise a future generation of aviators. It is a cool place to hang out as you can see lots of light aircraft and helicopters on their daily manoeuvres.

Sywell Aerodrome is also the operating base for 2Excel Aviation and their display team, The Blades.
These are the world’s best stunt pilots and can be seen practising throughout the year with their stunning aerobatic moves defying gravity.

The Grace Spitfire is also based in the brand new hangers on the airfield and Aerolegends also bring a wrath of historic aircraft on to the airfield to provide visitors with experience flights.

Sloane helicopters have their HQ onsite and offer an engineering base for Robinson’s and Agustas.

1st Sywell Air Scout Group is proud to meet close to such a prestigious base and can guarantee a fabulous introduction to Aviation for any 8 to 18 year olds that are interested in flight or aircraft.
